I'm putting up an open-ended Utopia Web page at artnetweb.com/utopia
any ideas anyone might have on expanding this project are gratefully welcome.
The discussion of Utopia is slippery and can encompass everything from a virtual
garden of eden to a genocidal program. My question is; What is the initial impulse
that causes a person or society to dream of, work for or present as possible a utopian
vision. In America we have had in the past and continue to have Utopianism. An extreme
example of this impulse are the many right wing Militia's operating in the US today. I am
quite sure that Tim Mc Vay et al. are totally convinced that their actions in some way will
bring about the Millenium.There are just as many ideas proliferating that have to do with
a deindustrialized world in ecological balance.
