Surely there has never been a more fertile area than this latticework for the spawning of Utopias, if those ideas correspond to a desire to achieve enlightenment through connectivity. This is where individuals of good spirit and open minds can flourish and expand. Weavers of a multi-coloured garment of labyrinthian channels through which pass all the dimensions of humanity.

But that's the real rub: all the aspects of our global society frolic out here, as indeed they should, albeit disembodied. Soon it becomes such an attractive playground, that some very fat spiders, with predatory inclinations, start getting territorial and put up fences. Then the book burners appear in the guise of the morally outraged, and before you can say Jack Wabbit, the whole game is stitched up, gagged and leased out to a few major entrepreneurs who learnt a long time ago that the way to make money is to feed the masses a 24 hour diet of mindless crap.

Well it may not turn out this way at all. Hopefully the critical and creative constituents of this tangle will proliferate and hold there own in the wars for Internet sovereignty that are now being played out around us. And if were lucky we won't suddenly wake up and find ourselves subscribed to MSN with Oprah playing on every channel.
